Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT)

With EPSDT*, children and teens with Medicaid can get complete healthcare. This includes preventive care. It is important that those enrolled in Medicaid receive any services or treatment that they need.

  • Early: catching problems early when they are easier to treat
  • Periodic: checkups for children at scheduled intervals based on age
  • Screenings: conducting physical, mental, and developmental tests to detect any potential problems
  • Diagnostic: performing diagnostic tests to follow up when a risk is identified
  • Treatment: a course of action to control, correct, or reduce health problems found

* FAMIS children are eligible for well-child visits and immunizations, but not all EPSDT services members.
