Managed care industry veteran brings more than 28 years of healthcare experience to role

 

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Nevada, a leading managed care provider of health benefits for Nevada residents enrolled in the state’s Medicaid program, announced today that Joy Thomas has been named president of its Medicaid health plan.

 

“Joy is a trusted and highly respected senior leader who has extensive knowledge and experience within the healthcare industry as well as a passion and track record for serving communities in Nevada,” said Dr. Barsam Kasravi, President of Anthem’s Medicaid West Region. “She is an influential and dynamic leader who is capable of guiding Anthem through a time of tremendous growth and transformational change. We look forward to Joy’s leadership as we continue to improve health and lives across Nevada.”

 

In her new role, Thomas assumes responsibility for all aspects of Anthem’s Medicaid health plan operations in Nevada, ensuring its more than 203,000 members receive access to innovative, high-quality healthcare and support services. She will also lead efforts to strengthen relationships in the community with state leaders, providers, and other key stakeholders.

Thomas is a managed care industry veteran, bringing more than 28 years of healthcare experience and executive leadership to the role. Most recently, she served as the Regional Vice President of Provider Solutions for Anthem’s Nevada health plan providing strategic expertise in the field of provider contracting, servicing, and engagement. She has successfully piloted initiatives related to network strategy, contracting, and quality and value-based programs.

 

She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Healthcare Management from Northeastern University. She represents the Health Insurance Carrier in the Commissioner’s Network Adequacy Advisory Council at the Nevada Division of Insurance.
