Medicaid eligibility and enrollment
Is Medicaid right for you?
Medicaid is open to:
Medicaid coverage varies by state. Some states cover any person who meets certain income requirements. Other states have additional requirements.
There are reasons you may qualify for Medicaid:
Let’s find out if you may be eligible
In many cases, Medicaid uses income guidelines to determine eligibility. Use this tool to see if you may be eligible. The tool will ask you for your yearly household income. If you don’t know it, enter your best guess.
You can also get an idea of your costs if you buy health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace® – also known simply as the Marketplace. The Marketplace is an alternative to Medicaid where you can find health coverage to fit your needs and budget.
In some cases, past medical expenses are covered
You may also be eligible for up to three months of coverage for prior unpaid medical expenses. This is called retroactive coverage.
You may be eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid
It’s possible to have both Medicare and Medicaid. If you already have Medicare coverage, you may still qualify for Medicaid coverage if you meet eligibility requirements.
