Anthem Blue Cross and Providence Health System Reach New Multi-Year Contract Agreement in California
November 01, 2024Providence Health System (Providence) and Anthem Blue Cross (Anthem) announced they have reached a new multi-year care agreement that secures long-term access to high-quality, affordable healthcare for patients covered by Anthem health plans.
“Providence is grateful our patients will have continued access to the seamless quality and compassionate care across the health care continuum,” said Laureen Driscoll, chief executive, Providence South Division, serving all California operations. “And we thank Anthem Blue Cross for working together with us in a spirit of partnership that meets both our needs, but most importantly those of whom we serve.”
As part of the agreement, the two organizations worked to align cost trends with the State of California’s new spending targets. They will continue to accelerate their collaboration on several innovative initiatives, including advanced data connectivity and value-based care models designed to improve health outcomes and better control costs of care for Providence’s patients covered by Anthem health plans.
“We are pleased to continue our long-term partnership with Providence and work together to improve health outcomes while keeping costs affordable and sustainable for our valued customers and members,” said Beth Andersen, president of Anthem Blue Cross. “Today’s agreement exemplifies how care providers and health plans can collaborate to build a better, more affordable health system, demonstrating our strong commitment to delivering access to high-quality, affordable care for the patients we mutually serve in Northern and Southern California.”
This agreement, which is effective January 1, 2025, applies to all Anthem members and provides continued in-network access to Providence’s network of hospitals, physicians, clinics, home health services, and affiliated health services across California.
